“Over The Sands” (OTS) is an initiative started in 2006 by Robert “Bob” McKittrick and John Robinson, as joint co-ordinators, and, Dr. Sandy Kilpatrick, as Honorary President. Its original purpose was to raise funds, in 2007, for the families of the Morecambe Bay cockle picker tragedy in 2004. It was decided to continue the initiative to complement the effort to revive the spirit of the Morecambe Choral Festival.
Joint Co-ordinators of OTS
“Over the Sands” is a ‘not-for-profit’ constitutionally established organization which is attempting to revive, at least, the spirit of the Morecambe Choirs Festival, which was a favourite of Edward Elgar and which had its heyday during the first half of the 20th century.
Central Methodist Church, Morecambe was one of the choral venues at the time that the Morecambe Choral Festival was at its height, so we think it a good thing to stay permanently with this venue. After all, it was a Morecambe festival!
Some sponsorship has been secured, again, which will enable 'Over the Sands' to continue as an integral part of cultural life in the Morecambe and Lancaster area for 2012. However, the future is less certain and a different operating model may have to be adopted

One of the objectives of the “Over The Sands” choral evening is to bring before the public a sample of the wealth and diversity of choral talent in the “Bay” area.
This is achieved by inviting choirs of diverse styles to perform, roughly as follows:
1. A male or female voice choir.
2. A church based choir.
3. A children's or school based choir. (this allows the children to view choirs of different types and background.)
4. Full choral or specialist choir.
‘Over the Sands’ concerts to date have given local audiences the opportunity to hear: The Regent Singers, The Youth Choir of The Priory Of St Mary of Lancaster, Central Lancaster High School Choir, The Gladly Solemn Sound, Lancaster Male Voice Choir, Morecambe Male Voice Praise, The Lancaster & District Choral Society, Rushley Singers, the Saint Laurence Singers, Furness Music Centre Community Choir and Dowdales School Chamber choir both from Dalton-in-Furness. - see ‘Concert 2012’ for the next choirs.
The other main objective is to raise funds for a local charity/good cause. (See “Charities”)
